Instant, Single-Click Backup Goes Plug-and-Play

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 19, 2005 – Kadena Systems Inc., a technology and licensing company specializing in data storage solutions for mobile, wireless and PC markets, today announced that a new version of its popular snapshot-backup software for flash drives is now available for use with all USB storage devices. The new software, called PocketCache+, pairs instant, easy-to-use backup with the plug-and-play simplicity of USB disk and other storage devices. With a single click of a computer mouse, USB storage users can instantly back up PC folders and files with tiny “snapshots” stored on USB disk, CD, DVD or flash drive.

PocketCache+ is a brand-new type of backup and archiving application. Unlike conventional backup or file-synchronization methods, PocketCache+ employs an innovative, content-based backup technology that detects changes in individual file contents and stores these in fast, highly storage-efficient “snapshots.” Snapshots enable users to back up hundreds of times onto a 500-megabyte flash or CD-RW drive, and thousands of times onto larger, multi-gigabyte storage devices —without having to make decisions about which files to keep or replace. Snapshot backups are also fast and storage efficient —requiring only seconds and 20-60 percent of the storage space needed for a conventional backup — making PocketCache+ ideal for backup of storage-intensive presentations, documents, spreadsheets or databases.

Each snapshot is kept in a comprehensive archive containing complete “file-tree” views of folders and files at the time of backups, making it easy to find, access and restore current and previous versions of files, or even files that have been deleted. Archived files are easily restored to disk, CD-RW or DVD-RW with a simple “save” operation.
